Open Call

Montclair Design Week had an open call for design submissions related to the theme of Inclusion & Design with the following brief:

“Achieving inclusion is all the talk in this landmark year of the census, elections, protests and a global pandemic. If 2020 is the point of no return, what better time to take a snapshot of who we are, and what we want to be, than NOW. “

My Project

I created Gradient, an IGTV 3-part series exploring the future of the design industry. Crossing the career spectrum from Intern to CEO, Gradient shared designer’s stories, asked questions, and passed the mic to imagine the future of the design industry. Each video shared unique perspectives on Sustainability, Diversity, and Design Education.

Featured Designers: Jayna Patel, Justin Morris-Morano, Andrew Kolczynski, Krystal Persaud, Dalal Elsheikh, Melissa Nieves, Chelsea Banks, Freddy Ang, Katrina Macaro, Alyson Fraser Diaz, Gretchen Von Koenig, Kelly Bryden

Visual Design

This project is called “Gradient” because the series is about transitioning from one way of life into another; a gradient of culture. For the visual design I was inspired by soft gradients and a lo-fi technology aesthetic. I wanted the graphics for the series to be playful, warm, encouraging, and technology centered. The topics of the series are important, serious, and about moving the world forward. My goal was to balance the seriousness of the topics with an encouraging visual landscape.

Social content

I created a variety of social content to promote the upcoming event. This included posts that highlighted topics, dates, and our guest speakers.

video graphics

The video graphics were designed by me and animated by the incredible Nate Soto. Each video has in introduction by me and then goes into a series of questions that designers provide commentary on. Our featured guests are designers across industries that are pushing the world forward within sustainability, diversity, and design education.
